Now I’ve always had an amazing relationship with the house of CHANEL here in the Middle East. Only on Thursday I celebrated my 29th birthday with them and enjoyed the full Chanelista experience. They styled me for their Little Black Jacket exhibition here in Dubai. The exhibition features photographs taken by Karl Lagerfeld who is the subject of this DIY and you can view some pictures of the event which had Rita Ora on the red carpet next to me here.
More on how you can win some CHANEL goodies on Cheapnchic.net soon but first let’s get crafting. This is one of the most complex projects on here as it combines various crafts into one project but the final product is very cute.
Here is a step-by-step:
You will need: A soft toy (mine is from the reject bin at Ikea), white wool, french knitting loom the circumference of the head of the soft toy, black felt, glue gun, black ribbon, child-sized sunglasses, needle, white tailors chalk, black and white thread, ornate button.
Begin by creating the vest for the doll like so:
Measure the pattern you’ve made agains the doll’s chest.
When the fit is as shown above, cut an extra copy of the pattern in felt which will make the front of the vest:
From there cut the front copy in half to make 2 sides of the vest:
From there turn in the corners to form the lapels of the vest:
Using the glue gun, glue the lapels down and then stitch the side seams. Turn the lapels to face down and stitch to the back of the vest by hand:
Make sure to leave the arm holes open as shown above. From here you can turn the vest back the right way around and press:
Take the vest off and prepare the chest of the doll. Use either cream felt or white ribbon to create the illusion of Karl’s collar:
Create the tie for the doll:
From there glue it to the chest of the doll:
Place the vest over the top and stitch on the button:
Now it’s time to create the hair for the doll using my fave French Knitting technique:
Once you’ve made the cap according to these instructions stitch it to the head of the doll, making sure the sunglasses are knitted under the beanie:
Now it’s time to craft Karl’s iconic ponytail, wrap around a length of card and snip at one end:
Lastly, hand stitch on the ponytail and you have the Kaiser himself in your own home!
